The Hindi cinema industry has produced biggest of stars, entertainers but not ‘The Show Man’ for Raj Kapoor could only be one. Raj Kapoor, born on December 14, 1924 was Indian cinema’s greatest ever entertainer, director, actor, producer. And on his 90th birth anniversary, search engine giants Google takes pride in honouring the noted star with a brilliantly done creative Google Doodle. This doodle is a reflection of Raj Kapoor’s landmark, timeless movies Awara and Shree 420! For who can forget the iconic Raj Kapoor-Nargis rain scene.
Raj Kapoor, a celebrated figure of the Hindi Cinema,was born to Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni Devi Kapoor in Peshawar, (modern day Pakistan) in a family of Hindu Pathans. The integral part of the Kapoor clan, Raj Kapoor, started his venture in the world of entertainment and cinema at the age of ten, with the movie Inquilab in 1935. But his first big break as the leading actor came with the lead role in Neel Kamal (1947) opposite Madhubala who played his leading lady.
The man who took the Kapoor’s legacy, who redefined Bollywood and gave performances that still set the bench mark, would have turned 90 today. It is “The Show Man”, Raj Kapoor’s birthday. His phenomenal style of acting and the magic he created with direction, has won billions of hearts and still rules many.
His charming performance and hheart-warmingsmile won many hearts and made many generations drool head over heels. From Rajan in Andaaz to the role of Raj Singh in Around the World, he became every woman’s dream man.
Raj Kapoor’s accomplishments were not limited to only being the actor for he established his own studio, R. K. Films, hence becoming the youngest film director of his time making at the age of just 24! His made his directorial debut with Aag starring himself, Nargis, Kamini Kaushal and Premnath.
From international shoots to love triangles, Raj Kapoor has done everything in an era where they were lesser talked about. His risk taking skills also set him a class apart. He gave us the first two interval Bollywood movie with Sangam. He dedicated six years and most of his fortune to a film that we love and appreciate today, Mera Naam Joker. He has many achievements in his kitty and is a sheer example of how the ups and downs in lives can be appreciated and enjoyed.
