In a bid to brand the state's fish products on the lines of McDonalds or Chicking, the kerala state coastal area development corporation (KSCADC) is scouting for commercial spaces to sell its Fish Maid Products.
The Corporation Plans to market around 25 fish-based snacks food, developed by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) under the World Bank-Funded national agricultural innovation project, in shopping complexes and malls. The Corporation plan for spaces falls in three caregories - Fishmaid hut, lounge and premium.
The products, which have found acceptance in their trial run, include burgers, mayo wrap, doughnuts, munchy bites, sandwiches, date delights, lollipopand the like.
" We have already received a good from major ventures. We will be calling the interested parties for a meeting and briefing the business potential to them; they can be made the freanchisees, " corporation managing director K Ampady said.
CIFT scientists claim the products are rich in omega-3 fatty acid and polyunsaturated fatty acids that are safe and healthy alternatives to their chicken and meat counter parts. "Out focus was on making the food suitable for today's lifestyle, wherein nobody has time to spend in kitchen for long. And we thought why not make fish food trendy and tasty like fast foods, " said M Nasser, principal scientist at CIFT who led a team of scientists in making these products.
The Products will be manufactured at Nalapakam, a KSCADC facility in Kollam. Dry and fresh fish products, sold under brands Drish and Seafresh, will also be made available at these outlets later.
